My husband began coaching baseball for 11- and 12-year old young men in 1988, when our own son played at this level. The father-son /coach-player thing didn’t work out well for our family, so as our son moved up in the age groups my husband didn’t follow along as his coach, like many dads do.

Over the years, I’ve grown to enjoy this game of baseball more and more. But what I’ve become really passionate about is the one-of-a-kind experience young players and their families, many of whom have become our lifelong friends, are privileged to enjoy as part of my husband’s team. These kids not only learn baseball, they also learn invaluable life-lessons – the kinds of things I believe can help sustain them, give them strength and confidence, when life throws them curve balls.

Maybe this explains why many former players and their families return to watch games year after year, and why they say the time spent with my husband’s team remains a highlight in their lives.

Each year as I watch the games, I also observe the meaningful moments, the personal triumphs, the rich life-lessons unfold before my eyes. These are the memorable stories, the perspectives – along with my personal musings – shared with you in this blog. I hope you enjoy them.
